Architects for the day

We read a book called Puffin the Architect by Kimberly Andrews and really wanted to try out being architects ourselves. We created our own dream home and wrote about what we added to them.

We have been very busy at Kaniere School this term with lots of different things. We thought we would take some time to put slides together of our favourite things so far.

Lockdown Books

Our writing for the last 2 weeks of the last term, we wrote our own books all about the lockdown. We shared what we found hard, what we enjoyed, what we missed and more.
We designed, wrote and illustrated them and displayed them on our classroom wall for everyone to read. Now we are taking them how to share with our whānau.

We also created some 3D houses using only paper and glue. We first planned them and then step by step, put them all together. We were very proud of how well they turned out.

Creating a Character

We have been learning how to create a character for a story. We watched a video on Class Dojo about the Night Zookeeper. He taught us about what key details we need to include when introducing a new character.

Here are our animals that we created to live in the night zoo.

Our Lego Writing Creations

Last week each class in our school was given a tub of lego to use as a creative station. We chose to try it out by creating our own lego creations. Then we wrote a story about it and recorded ourselves reading it using explain everything.

These are a few of the creations made by our class.

Student Spotlight - Sophie

This week we had Kris from the library come and read us the story Abigail and the Birth of the Sun. After that, we did some sun art and it was fun because we got to put yellow strings hanging off the bottom.

For writing this week we watched a video about a bridge, a bear, a moose, a rabbit and a racoon. They were fighting about who got to go to the other side. We made an animation on explain everything retelling the story and then wrote about what we thought the ending would be. I said that maybe the racoon and the rabbit will fight because they wanted to get to the other side like the bear and the moose.

Here is my animation

Student Spotlight - Logan

Last week for writing we got to write about anything we wanted. I wished that I had a PlayStation 4 so that I could play games with my brother. I enjoyed this writing because I got to write about what I like.

Next time I do writing I want to write about what I do with my family after school.

Here is my writing.

Student Spotlight - Finnian

My Holiday - By Finnian

At  the weekend my family went tramping to a hut.  We slept at the hut and the next day we walked back to the car.  We saw a robin on the way back and on the way there is a  small bird I liked it.  I carried a backpack with my clothes in it.  When we got back we kept on driving to Hammer.   When we got there we had electric blankets on our beds they were warm.  Mum and Dad had electric blankets too. We went to the hot pools and I was tall enough to go on the hydroslides and I went on the new one and the Super Bowl.  My favourite one was the green hydroslide because it had lights which were shaped like arrows inside.  It was a great holiday.
